For 6 years, Uber has been disrupting the traditional car service model. It has even disrupted the younger car-sharing economy. Now, they have opened up their archives of user data, secure and anonymous data, to build relationships with the cities in which they operate.
Uber Movement is the acknowledgement that how people move through cities changes, and therefore the landscape must adapt. Uber movement provides the data from hundreds of thousands of uber vehicles, and their trips across the city. This information is critical in recognizing traffic patterns over time, and gives Urban Planners a leg up on building a more navigable city.
Uber is creating better relationships with the metro areas they serve, through this open data product. There is already years of information they are working into the Movement product. It is essential to both the models of better cities, and a better car service, to be measure impact and be more efficient as urban areas grow.
Movement will be open to City Officials, Policy Makers, and even the General Public. The access is cross cultural as well, allowing everyone into the world of Uber’s development across the globe.
